The 41st. Grand Scratch 2009-2010 ended one of the best Cootie years
in many years. The last “Gavel” fell, then some of us relaxed, and over a few SMB's and sodas, reminisced and discussed what we could do to make
our Pup Tents, Grand, and the VFW Department of Pacific Areas even better next year.
The Grand started on slow footing and off track, but you, all of you, through long hours of dedication and scratching, brought it back and not only made
this old Coot proud, but again showed Supreme that the Military Order of the Cootie of Grand of Pacific Areas was and still is the best.
Now we have begun a new term and as you know, Cooties still have to scratch their seams and search for new and re-instated VFW members in order to insure
future fertile hunting grounds for Cootie recruiting. While doing this, Cooties still have to seek out worthy VFW candidates to invite into our elite hard
working, fun loving group, and continue to work within our communities, helping where ever we're needed, whether it's hospital visitations, fund drives or
working with our VFW Posts, or our Pup Tents.
At the present, I'm enjoying some R&R in Florida and will attend the Supreme Scratch in Indianapolis in August. Those of us who will be able to attend
will be able to talk to the different Chairpersons and get a better idea of how Supreme wants our reports. This should help make Cootie reporting easier
for 2010-2011.
Those of you who were able to attend the Grand Scratch learned that we were over 100% in every program. Those of you that couldn't make the Scratch, I hope
will read the next Cootie Courier, to see how well the Grand of Pacific Areas did overall. If you don't get the Courier, let me or a Grand Officer know and
a copy will be sent to you.
I would also like for more of you to read the Rim of Fire and check your Grand Web emails more frequently and communicate more within your Pup Tents and the
Grand. My email, as well as all Grand Officers, is always available for your comments and suggestions, or just to say “Hello.” By doing this, we'll know that
you're still with us and you haven't changed your address.
In closing, I would like to thank those Cooties who stepped forward to take over the Rim of Fire, Grand Web Page, and the elected and appointed officers for
the next term. And a special thanks to all the Cooties who were able to attend the 41st Grand Scratch and felt that I needed another year as your “Big Bug.”
I will try to dishonor that title by treading through another year of quagmire, mud, muck, quicksand and all that other Cootie “Verbiage” without letting it
spill over on the honor of the Military Order of the Cootie.
Cooties, thanks again for your dedication and hard work and may we have another great year in the Cootie tradition of having fun and still “Keep 'em Smiling
in Beds of White.”
