The following represents the Kuripots – Pup Tent 11 History with changes (1 – 10 partial) incorporated. This supercedes all previous PT 11 Histories. (All change 10 partial entries are underlined)

Note: This history is written in the order of the Seam Squirrel’s year (July-June) vice the calendar year.

– PT 11 was formerly TT’s – Pup Tent 11 in Taipei, Taiwan. The Charter was surrendered due to lack of members and potential members. The number was subsequently assigned to the new Pup Tent at Barrio Barretto.

– In late 1993 the idea of forming a Pup Tent in the Military Order of the Cootie (MOC) was discussed at the CofA and with VFW Post 11447 Commander Jerry Bristle.

– A motion was put before the membership of VFW Post 11447 on January 13, 1994 to form the first MOC. Pup Tent in the Philippines. The motion to form a Pup Tent was approved. Commander Jerry Bristle appointed an Ad Hoc Committee of himself, Comrades Harland Saunders, Dave Dunn, Keith Walter, and Rich Groscost to screen and recommend potential candidates for membership. Since Comrade Walter was the only member to have ever been a Cootie, he was instrumental in guiding the Committee through the early stages of inquiry and procedure. The Committee’s list of candidates was presented to the Post membership at the March 10 meeting for individual approval. From this list came the Charter Members of the Pup Tent.

– The first formal organizational meeting was held March 16, 1994. Provisional election of Officers included:

– The second organizational meeting was held on 4 May 1994. Installation and initiation were set for 12 June1994 at Oasis Hotel in Angeles City, prior to Grand Scratch. Cootie numbers were assigned. It was announced that Supreme Junior Vice Commander Gary Strauss would be the installing officer. There was an instructional discussion of Cootie Degrees.

– A special meeting was held on 1 June 1994. Eighteen Charter members given instructions on procedures for 12 June Installation

June 12, 1994 INSTALLATION AND INITIATION
Formal ceremonies of Installation; and Initiation were held at VFW Post 2485 in Angeles City, Philippines. Supreme JVC Gary Strauss was the installing officer.

In accordance with Article II, Sect. 203.C. , all three Degrees were confirmed on original members.

The first official function was to attend the Grand Scratch at the Department Convention at the Oasis Hotel in Angeles City.

July 2, 3 & 4 4th OF JULY BEACH BASH
Pup Tent sponsored and manned a “Fish & Chips” booth at VFW Post 11447 annual 4th of July Barrio Beach Bash.

July 6, 1994 FIRST EVER REGULAR SCRATCH
Since all original members had been elevated to Cootie during Installation and Initiation on June 12, a demonstration of Nit Degree was held for benefit of the Pup Tent.

September 7, 1994 SCRATCH
Gavel presented to Pup Tent by Cootie #2 Dale Perce. Starter kits were received and groundwork began for establishment of new Pup Tents associated with VFW Post 2485 in Angeles City and VFW Post 9892 in La Union.

50/50 drawing initiated. This is a drawing where 50% of the take goes to a special Relief Fund and 50% to the winner.

September 16, 1994 SPECIAL PROJECT
Pup Tent participated in clean-up day at Clark Cemetery with VFW Post 11447 and VFW Post 2485.

October 5, 1994 SCRATCH, SPECIAL PROJECT REPORTS
One hundred twenty three business cards mailed to a terminally ill American child whose last wish was to be in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Pup Tent sponsored “Chili Cook-off”. Received over P4,600 in proceeds and donations.

Cooties continued their role as movers and shakers at the Post level. Copies of the Original Installation Warrant forwarded to Grand to correct discrepancy.

Special guests B. K. Hubbard, Grand Inspector of Pacific Areas, Jerry Prinz, Grand Deputy Inspector of the Philippines and William “Doc” Johnson, Grand Surgeon were in attendance to conduct the annual inspection of our Pup Tent.

Pup tent purchased three aluminum walking canes from Seam Squirrel Tom Herroon who promptly donated the proceeds to our General Fund. Canes are for the use of VFW members.

Cooties in attendance voted to send $30 to Grand in support of National Home projects.

Grand Inspector B. K. Hubbard auctioned off two ;pins for P900 and then donated proceeds to our Pup Tent General Fund.

September 18, 1998 POW/MIA DAY OBSERVED
Participated in Post 11447 POW/MIA Day memorial service at the Post Home. Other participants included representatives from FRA Branch 367, American Legion Post 4 and the Returned & Services League (RSL) of Australian veterans.

September 19, 1998 SPECIAL EVENT
Pup Tent was represented at Pup Tent 15’s Social at the Bonanza Hotel in Angeles City.

October 1, 1998 SCRATCH
The deteriorating illness of our Post Canteen Manager led the Cooties to spearhead a project to finance his trip to the United States to receive much needed medical treatment. This rally in time of need resulted in over 300 hours spent by cooties and helped the Post raise over $4000. Past Seam Squirrel Melvin “OB” O’Briant coordinated the effort.

November 11, 1998 VETERAN’S DAY
Pup Tent participated in Veteran’s Day ceremonies at Clark Cemetery in Angeles City, hosted by VFW Post 2485. A special memorial wreath laying ceremony followed at the gravesite of VFW Post 11447’s namesake Paul B. Busik. This included a 2 Bell Ceremony conducted by FRA Branch 367. Members also attended Post 2485 annual BBQ in the afternoon.

December 3, 1998 SCRATCH
Blanket Bum Harland Saunders assumed position of Seam Squirrel due to the resignation of Tom Herron effective 1 December in accordance with MOC bylaws. Hide Gimlet Jerry Rowe moved up to Blanket Bum.

Special election held to fill vacant Hide Gimlet slot. Past Seam Squirrel Keith Walter elected to position of Hide Gimlet.

– PT 11 participated in Post 9892’s Annual Chili Cook Off. While not winning the Best Chili award (1st and 2nd place went to some other Posts), we did come in first in the Philippine Pup Tent contest. We now have custody of The Great Blue Louse.

December 5, 2002 SCRATCH
– The Great Blue Louse, wearing a Grand Soup Shag was welcomed to the PT. He will grace our Kuripots’ Korner for at LEAST one year.

– The Pup Tent hosted a very successful social for all C of A attendees. A GRAND time was had by all.

December 14, 2002 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CHRISTMAS PARTY
– 34 Amerasian scholars attended the annual Scholarship Program Christmas Party at the Post home. The children met Santa and received presents from their Post and Pup Tent sponsors. After having their pictures taken with Santa, they departed for the home of Blanket Bum Seth Hendricks and his wife Carmen. There they ate lunch and participated in several contests with everyone winning a prize.

– Cootie “Papa John” Ford of Mighty Pinatubo PT 15 attended. Cootie Ford a Charter Member of PT 11 donated PT 11 shirt and shag for auction.

November 11, 2003 VETERAN’S DAY
– Several Cooties attended Swarming at PT 15 yesterday and also attended the Veterans’ Day ceremonies at Clark Cemetery. The SS and Hide Gimlet performed the Fleet Reserve Association’s Two Bell Ceremony.

November 29, 2003 POST 9892 CHILI COOK OFF
– Pup Tent lost custody of the Great Blue Louse to Pup Tent 7, the original owners. However, on our return to Subic Bay, the GBL was observed hitchhiking and seeking a ride to the upcoming Mid Term CofA. We promptly came to the aid of a Cootie in distress.

December 3, 2003 SCRATCH
– Distinguished visitors attending were Grand Inspector Dave Teets and PT 303 Shyster Jerry Hudson. Long time visitor and recent transferee Larry Lyons attended his first Scratch as PT 11 member. The GBL also attended after a short absence.
– Pup Tent at 113% of Hospital quota and at 107% of membership quota.

December 4 – 6, 2003 SCRATCH
– The Pup Tent hosted another successful Social for Mid Term attendees.
– Cootie #51 Gerald L. Kraus transferred from defunct PT 3 (Guam).

December 21, 2003 COOTIE PASSING
– Cootie Dave Dunn passed away. Charter was draped.

January 1, 2004
– A “Bloody Mary” morning was enjoyed by all Cooties due to courtesy of the aptly named PT 7 SS Ransom who successfully negotiated the return of the GBL to PT 7 during the past CofA.

February 5, 2004 SCRATCH
– Cootie Walter withdrew as HG nominee. Cootie Hendricks nominated for HG. No further nominations were received for any position. One unanimous ballot was cast for each individual nominee.

February 12 – 15, 2004 ANNUAL BEACH BASH
– Pup Tent again assisted in a very successful Beach Bash. SS Burns and Post Commander Cootie Billman again led off the parade down Beach Boulevard. Sno-Cones and the Dunk Tank both did quite well.
– Special meeting held on 14th for 3 year Tightwad due vacancy. Cootie Billman nominated and elected. Cootie Bristle to move to 2 year TW and Cootie Levesque to move to 1 year TW.

March 4, 2004 SCRATCH AND INSTALLATION OF SHAVETAILS
– Distinguished guests were Grand SVC and District VII Commander Jerry Prinz and FRA Branch 367 President Shipmate Art Smith. Shavetails for new term were installed by Past Seam Squirrel Dan Burns.

– Application for membership received from Post QM Rich Truax. Accepted and forwarded to Post for its approval.

– Many Pup Tent members attended the annual Memorial Day Ceremonies at Clark Cemetery.

July 1, 2004 SCRATCH
– Budget approved.
– Received E-mail from Grand Quartermaster advising that Cooties Bill Wichmann and Orville Humfleet, from Taiwan have transferred to PT 11. This brings us to a total of 33 and still growing.
– Cootie #40, Post Commander Jim Billman reported on Grand Scratch and Convention. John Randle Fund remains in effect. We are to receive a Plaque for being over 200% in Hospital Reporting for the second year in a row.
– SS Burns presented PT with Supreme plaque for assisting Post in reaching 100% in membership, also Grand Certificate of Merit for being over 100% in Hospital visits. Hospital Chairman Alvarez received Grand Certificate of Recognition for his efforts in reaching more than 100% in Hospital reporting.

July 9, 2004 SWARMING
– Special guests were introduced: Grand SVC and Grand Booster Chairman Jerry Prinz; Supreme District 15 Council Member and PT 7 SS Emory Russell; Grand Council District 7 Member and PSS PT 7 Dave Ramson; Post 124 Commander Cisco Francisco; and Post 2485 Commander and PSS PT 15 Al Mitchell.
– Grand SVC brought greetings from Grand Commander Sass. John Randle Fund remains. And as Booster Chairman reminded that all PTs have to maintain Booster efforts in supporting the Posts.
– Supreme Council Member Russell said all should try to improve Convention Yearbook. PT 7 SS Russell made a substantial donation due to the absence of the Great Blue Louse. This is the second swarming in a row that the GBL has missed. Last one was at PT 7!!!
– Swarming was followed by a Cootie Social at the Asian Reef. A Grand time was had by all.

August 5, 2004 SCRATCH
– SS asked for applications. One completed application was received from Grand. Our newest Cootie, John Davis, Commander VFW Post 3457, Saipan was initiated in all Degrees at Grand Scratch in June on Saipan. Nit Truax was initiated into 2nd Degree and after a short recess Grayback Truax was initiated into the 3rd Degreee.
– Cootie #45, PSS Burns seconded motion to adopt an “Early Bird” program reducing annual dues by $5 from now to October Scratch. Cootie #12, PSS Saunders made the motion. Carried.
– PSS Burns presented a Past Seam Squirrel Shag to PSS Bristle.

September 2, 2004 SCRATCH
– E-mail from GVC/Booster Chairman Prinz reports that Cootie Larry Lyons has transferred to PT 303, Kimchi Kats , but as transfer is not final yet, his super recruiting efforts will continue to be credited to PT 11.
– PSS Burns presented a Past Seam Squirrel Shag to PSS Billman.

September 11, 2004 PATRIOT’S DAY
– 8 Cooties attended Patriot’s Day ceremonies at Post Home.

September 17, 2004 POW/MIA DAY
– 8 Cooties attended POW/MIA Day Observance. A kaban of rice was raffled off after ceremonies. Immediately following raffle, tickets for a “Holiday Turkey” went on sale.
